Bring Out the Pacifier for Baby Zach

It was an outcome that was expected, everyone went into the Jets vs Chiefs game thinking the Chiefs would win. However, the Chiefs were in for a dogfight as the relentless Jets defense would take Mahomes a trip down to hell. Patrick Mahomes had never looked so average in a game since maybe his rookie season. Couple the stellar defensive performance with Zach Wilson playing the best game of his NFL career and you had the recipe to pull off an upset. Zach Wilson finished with better numbers all around than the best QB in football, he went toe for toe with the great Patrick Mahomes.

Unfortunately, the untimely mistakes are one thing that have not left Zach Wilson. With 7:24 remaining in the fourth quarter, Wilson fumbled a shotgun snap, and the Chiefs were able to recover. At that point, everyone knew the Chiefs were not losing the game. After a couple of ball controlling drives by the Chiefs, that was all she wrote for the Jets.

After the game we saw the cavalry come to Zach Wilson’s rescue. Why is there a need to pacify your QB two minutes after the game ended? The leader of the locker room is in such a fragile state of mind that his teammates need to console him during and right after the game to ensure he does not shatter.

Let’s take a look at the overwhelming pacifying by his teammates:

Heck, even Lebron James managed to sneak into the conversation and came running to support the most fragile human being in the NFL (possibly this earth). In what world will this end well? Successful teams have strong leadership at the Quarterback position, the NY Jets have a high schooler at the position who continuously needs a pat on the back so that he does not shatter into pieces. Quarterbacks like Mac Jones and Justin Fields, who look like lost cases aren’t receiving this treatment. NFL teams understand coddling will not get you anywhere at the most important position in the sport. The NY Jets are delaying the inevitable, they are steering Zach Wilson and their season straight off the cliff, which will be a point of no return. Keep that pacifier in Jets, it’ll keep Zach from shattering but your season has already shattered.
